Use AI in Riff
Suppose you staged a fix and want help describing it. Open the AI preferences, enable commit message drafting and request a draft in the commit panel. Compare the proposed subject and body with the staged changes, edit the text and commit when it reads the way you intend.
Each assist has its own switch and starts turned off. Availability depends on a Riff Pro AI seat assigned to you, permission for that feature, the organization's AI settings and remaining quota.
Choose the input that matches the task
| What you are doing | Available assistance |
|---|---|
| Preparing a commit | Draft a message from the staged diff, refine individual parts of your own draft or rewrite the draft as a complete message. |
| Reading a commit | Request a short summary for each changed file to decide which one to open first. |
| Inspecting a file diff | Ask for an explanation, request code review findings or flag unusual changes, such as an unexpected deletion. Check each finding against the actual diff. |
| Resolving a conflict | Ask for hints on the conflicting versions. Choose or edit the result in the resolver yourself. |
| Cleaning up history | Draft a message for commits you plan to squash, or ask for an editable interactive rebase plan. Review its order and proposed actions before doing any history editing. |
| Sharing the change | Draft a pull request title and description from the selected branches, or generate release notes for a commit range. Review the result before sharing it. |
Review what you send and use
An assist sends the relevant context, such as a diff, message or commit range, to the Gapfy AI service. Riff masks recognized secrets before sending. A diff can still contain confidential business information, so check the selected material before requesting assistance. Turning off a feature removes that assistance from your workflow. You decide which suggestions to keep, when to change files and when to create a commit or pull request.
