Getting started with Riff
Your first review needs two things on your computer: Riff and a Git repository. You can start with a project you already have and inspect its history without changing a file.
Install Riff and Git
On Windows, open the Gapfy downloads page, choose the Microsoft Store option for Riff and install it. On a Mac with Apple silicon, use the same page to download the Riff installer. Open the .pkg, follow the instructions and launch Riff from Applications.
Riff uses the Git command-line tools installed on your computer. Run git --version in a terminal to check your installation. On macOS, Riff can find Git from Homebrew, MacPorts or Apple's Command Line Tools.
Open your first repository
- Start in guest mode to work on a limited number of repositories on this computer. Sign in with your Gapfy account to sync tracked repository records and use the team features included in your plan. You can use your Gapfy name and email for commits. Your organization can require that identity.
- In the home tab, open the folder of an existing Git repository. To clone from a provider, connect your Git host, choose one or more repositories and select their destination on disk.
- In the graph, select a commit with a change you recognize. Open one of its files and compare the two versions. Show all branches to see where the commit fits in the wider history. Find a change and prepare a commit.
Make the next session easier
Use Settings to choose a light, dark or system theme, adjust the accent color and change keyboard shortcuts. The interface is available in six languages. Riff has 24 configurable actions and flags conflicting shortcuts. With the default bindings:
- On Windows, Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs, Ctrl+W closes the current tab and Ctrl+Shift+T reopens the last closed tab.
- On macOS, Command+W closes the tab and Command+Shift+T reopens it. Use Command+1 through Command+8 for the first eight tabs and Command+9 for the last one. On Windows, use Ctrl with the same numbers.
To work with more than one project, group your repositories in a workspace and open Setlist.
