Measure commit message compliance

A release manager wants to know whether recent commit titles follow the team's naming rule. Riff can count the matches on the developer's machine and send a dated result to Maestro. The dashboard is available with Pro and Pro AI.

Run the check

  1. In Maestro, choose the active template set and configure its commit message pattern. For example, ^(feat|fix): .+ accepts a title such as fix: handle an empty cart.
  2. Open the repository in Riff, sign in and check that it has a remote. Riff uses the remote to group results from different clones of the same repository.
  3. Run the compliance check from the toolbar. Riff reads up to 500 recent commit titles, tests their first lines against the active pattern and uploads the counts. An empty or invalid pattern gives a configuration message. A failed upload leaves the new result unpublished.

Read the result in Maestro

If 18 of 20 titles match, the repository card shows 90% compliance and two violations. Check the date before comparing repositories. For example, a repository last checked on Monday may not include a naming change adopted on Wednesday. A second check for the same repository and day updates that day's result.

The snapshot contains totals and the count of violations of the commit message rule. To investigate a particular title, open the history in Riff. To change what the next check measures, edit the pattern and run the check again. Configure templates and conventions.
